Casa Mística
“This is the perfect place to visit if you want to pretend you are Georgia O’Keefe, or if you want a true New Mexican experience of a rustic adobe home. Nogal is lovely, and we used this home as a base to visit Apache del Bosque National Wildlife Preserve, White Sands, and Valley of Fires. There is also a petroglyph site that isn’t too far. Rustic is the word, so understand that, but also appreciate the past that this home holds, and the experience of staying in an authentic, historic adobe home could offer. Also understand that, rustic as it is, it has been update in many lovely ways. It was a one-of-a-kind experience.”
Silver Bullet
The Silver Bullet is a fully renovated Airstream RV surrounded by juniper pines. Sit out front on the large porch and watch the wild life-Elk, Deer, Rabbits, and other critters who call our 30 acres of woods their home too. Silver Bullet is part of El Mistico glamping Ranch, which host other unique stays like Ashley’s Treehouse. The property sits on 7,100 ft of elevation and neighbors the Lincoln National Forrest. Come unplug from the city and enjoy a peaceful adventure at El Mistico.
Ashley’s Tree House
Ashley’s Tree house is part of El Místico Ranch which is on the last northern ridge of the Sierra Blanca or Sacramento Mountains and sits on a 7,300’ elevation. Balcony views catch amazing sunrises and views of the Lincoln national forest and its vegetated hills full of pinon pine, juniper, and a variety of cacti. Star gazing at its finest, minimal light pollution creates crystal clear night sky for star and moon gazers. Guest can explore the near by national forest or hike the most prominent Nogal Peak crest trail w/ a 9,600’ elevation.

Weekend Getaway Guide
Lots to do so let’s start you off with our list of recommended activities below:
No.1
Nogal Peak
First activity we recommend is to conquer Nogal Peak. Nogal Summit is a 2.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Alto, New Mexico that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year‑round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Bonito Lake
Bonito Lake is an alpine reservoir located high in the Sierra Blanca mountains northwest of Ruidoso, New Mexico. It is a popular fishing and camping destination, and although it is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest, it is not a part of the national forest.

Ruidoso Downs
Catch an adrenaline pump at the track! Ruidoso Downs Race Track hosts both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing, notably the All American Futurity, the world’s richest Quarter Horse race.

White Sands National Park
Two hour drive will get you to White Sands. White Sands National Park is an American national park located in the state of New Mexico and completely surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range. The park covers 145,762 acres in the Tularosa Basin, including the southern 41% of a 275 sq mi field of white sand dunes composed of gypsum crystals.

Three Rivers Petroglyph Site
There are over 21,000 petroglyphs at the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site at Three Rivers, New Mexico, located midway between Tularosa and Carrizozo in Otero County on Highway 54. Many of the petroglyphs can be easily viewed from a trail open to the public which winds through the rocks for about one mile. The petroglyphs are thought to be the product of the Jornada Mogollon people between about 1000 and 1400 AD. The site is protected and maintained by the Bureau of Land Management.

Noisy Water Winery is an American winery in Ruidoso, New Mexico, founded in 2009 by the Riddle Family. In 2014, its wines won 15 awards at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, including a Double Gold for its Ruidoso Bubbly Moscato, 2 Gold medals, and 5 Silver medals.

Grindstone Lake
The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, and on occasion catfish and smallmouth bass. Anglers love this lake due to the fact that it is one of two public waters in the area in which you can put a non‑motorized boat. Due to it being one of few lakes in the region, the shoreline can get fished pretty heavily especially around holiday weekends. You can escape the crowds by hopping in your watercraft and getting to the honey holes.

Backcountry Attitudes
Backcountry Attitudes is a full‑service rental and retail adventure outfitter with OHV adventure tours, indoor archery lanes, disc golf supplies, RV towing accessories, and maintenance on most off‑road vehicles. They offer adrenaline packed off road tours.
This multi‑use trail system, designed by the International Mountain Biking Association, was completed in 2014. Consisting of 5 trails totaling 18‑miles, the trails are open to mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. Please be courteous in interactions with fellow trail users.

Monjeau Lookout
Monjeau Lookout was completed in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps to serve as a fire lookout tower within Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico, United States, and remains in active use as a destination for forest visitors.

No Scum Allowed Saloon
Three miles north of Carrizozo on US Hwy 54 is the turn‑off to the “ghost town” of White Oaks. White Oaks is not your typical flat‑roofed adobe New Mexico historical experience. It’s more cowboy/frontier than adobe Disneyland. There were no Conquistadores bringing the word of God to the native population. It was a frontier wild west cattle community right up until gold was discovered… an almost pure vein going down into Baxter Mountain; then everything changed.

Valley of Fire National Recreation Area
The Valley of Fires Recreation. This part of the long Tularosa Valley contains many square miles of buckled, twisted basalt lava, part of an extensive flow up to 165 feet thick and over 45 miles long that originated from several nearby volcanoes, including one vent now known as Little Black Peak, 9 miles northwest of the dusty, windswept town of Carrizozo.

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge
As you plan your visit to the Middle Rio Grande Valley and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, you may be interested in which species of birds have been observed in the area. The citizen science site ebird.org is a great resource for up‑to‑date bird sighting lists. As you explore the site, you may uncover a trove of other useful information about birds and bird sightings that will allow you to predict which bird species you may see on the refuge during a given season.

This vast 1.1 million‑acre forest region is comprised of separate recreational sections including Ruidoso Valley, Cloudcroft and Carlsbad, which are all located throughout the southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico.

Spencer Theater, Alto/Ruidoso, New Mexico
Spencer Theater is a world‑class performance hall located in the Sacramento Mountain settlement of Alto, about 12 miles north of downtown Ruidoso. Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer’s celebrated features. The elegant, award‑winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square‑foot stage. The Spencer also has a 964 square‑foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica‑flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art. Free public tours are offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year. Donations are accepted!
